Theme: Jesus makes breakfast on the beach for his Apostles
Commentary: by Jane Prini
Today’s gospel reading has much to offer us. We hear of the apostles who are still grieving the death of their friend Jesus. They decide to do something very familiar, they go fishing at night, but catch nothing. At day-break, they see someone on shore who asks if they had caught anything and then he tells them to try one more time on the right side of the boat. We are told they caught 153 fish. Scholars tell us that this is the number of different species of fish in the sea at that time. Amazing, isn’t it? Does this remind you of another story about a big catch? (see Luke 5:1-11).
