COMING OUT OF OUR TOMBS
The rising of beloved Lazarus from the dead had a tremendous effect on the faith of the disciples after Jesus himself had risen from the dead. Jesus returns to where they want to kill him and brings life - life that is different than being brought back out of the tomb life that is everlasting - Resurrection Life. This is an emphatic declaration of St. John the Evangelist. "I am the Resurrection and the Life: whoever believes in me, though he dies, shall live'"; Do you believe this? A question asked to every baptized person.
Is it not true that, at times, we do not live a full life because we are afraid and selfish? We dare not commit ourselves to one another and we do not live according to the gospel. We are not convinced about the future. If so, we are more dead than alive. So the gospel also calls us to come out of the tombs of hardness of heart, out of the fears and selfishness that keeps us imprisoned. Let us listen to the call to die with him so that we can rise with him.
I wish to thank all of you who participated in our Lenten Mission as a preparation for the Easter celebration. I am also delighted with the support to Miriam Centre as well as Debra Dynes Community House. Lent is a time to participate in the realities of life outside of our families, especially the needy.
God bless.
